4 Unlikely Services A Locksmith Can Perform

Blog

When you are locked out of your home or your car, the first person you may think of calling for help is a locksmith. After all, locksmiths are known to deal with everything concerning a traditional lock that operates with a key. But a locksmith does more than deal with locks. Here are four unlikely services that locksmiths can help with, some of which you may not have thought of.

Dragging Doors

Do you have doors in your home that are dragging across the ground when they open and close? Fixing this issue could be a job for a handyman, but a locksmith can get it done just as well. This task will involve fixing the hinges that are on the door to prevent dragging from occurring.

If you're dealing with a very heavy door made out of metal or aluminum, the solution may be to install a continuous door hinge or a piano hinge. They run the entire length of a door and are perfect for large doors that need the additional support due to the weight.

Safe Installation

A safe is a great way to keep items secure in your home, but it won't mean much if a thief can steal the safe and try to bust it open elsewhere. That is why many people install a safe so that it cannot be removed, which can be done by installing it to your floor or the studs within a wall.

This is another job that a locksmith can perform for you. A locksmith's trade involves security, which extends to installing safes in ways that prevent them from being removed.

Slamming Doors

Doors that slam shut a bit too hard on their own have problems with the hinge arm. It's more common in commercial buildings and can be identified with the metal box that is attached to the rear of a door. The box contains springs and hydraulic fluid so the door closes quietly, but all those moving parts can also break. A locksmith can help with swapping out this part for a new one that will close the door quietly one again.

Electronic Entry Troubleshooting

An electronic entry system may seem like a job best suited for an IT professional, but it can actually be done by a locksmith. If you are having troubles with your electronic entry system, such as keypads or key fobs, you can work with a locksmith to solve the problem for you. They are capable of ordering and installing replacement parts to get the system working again.
